Fielding's Wood Grill
This weekend I had the privilege of trying a new restaurant in town, and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. Of course, we waited until we were in the car to try and decide where to eat dinner that night. If it weren't for my dining companion, I'd have never even thought to suggest this place because I hadn't heard of it yet. So, kudos to him for being more in-the-know than I was!
We called ahead to make sure they had gluten free options and I was pleasantly surprised that they had quite a few GF offerings. Upon our arrival, we waited only a few short minutes to be seated and had some time to wander around and order a few craft beers from the bar. Once seated, we were greeted by a bubbly server who was well-educated on the menu, which we put to the test when neither of us could decide between a handful of items that were making our mouths water. We finally compromised on splitting a few dishes and sides: the "Smoke" Burger on a gluten free bun, the Un-Ceasar Salad with lemon vinaigrette dressing and the Oriental sesame green beans. Could not have picked a better combo! Or could we? I guess we'll have to find out next visit... we will definitely be back for more.
The "Smoke" Burger: Angus beef, house grilled bacon, aged Italian provolone, oven dried tomatoes, grilled onions (which we omitted), fried egg, truffle bacon mustard, lettuce, milk bun (substituted GF bun) - $12.95
I don't think this one needs an explanation. It was delicious and perfectly prepared.
The "Un-Ceasar" Salad: Romaine, avocado, manchego cheese, pimento Caesar aioli, garlic chips, Spanish chorizo - $8.75
The lemon vinaigrette was perfect for this salad. Light, not overbearing and added the perfect amount of moisture to the dish. Plenty of food for 2 to share (as long as you have another dish to split also).
The Oriental Sesame Green Beans: I'm having trouble finding the words to describe this side dish. It was almost like we were eating green bean fries. They weren't breaded or fried, but they were perfectly crispy and the sesame flavor was outstanding. I want to try to make these at home, for sure.
We topped off the evening with a small Creme Brulee, which was the perfect texture, temperature and consistency. The inside was creamy and the top was crunchy and flavorful. Well executed indeed!
I'm looking forward to my next trip to Fielding's and will be sure to update this entry once I've tried a few more items from the menu!
